Eckroth Music has experienced repair technicians who are musicians in their own right. This means they're not only qualified because of their technical skills, but they're qualified because they personally know the importance of keeping instruments in top shape.

We're proud of the talents of our repair staff, and we'd like to introduce them so you know that when you bring an instrument to Eckroth Music to be repaired, you know you're getting the best service in the region.

Montana

Dan Charney (Billings)
Dan has been repairing musical instruments since 1993. After attending University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire as a music-liberal arts major, he earned his band instrument repair certification in Red Wing, Minnesota. Dan has continued his repair education on band instruments, orchstral strings and fretted string instruments with many industry leaders and repair/restoration specialists. Dan has an exstensive performing background on woodwind and various brass, string and percussion instruments in almost every genre of music.
 
Sara Charney (Billings)
Sara attended the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire as a music education major and is certified in Band Instrument Repair from Red Wing/Winona Technical College- now, Minnesota State College Southeast at Red Wing. Sara repairs woodwind, brass, and string instruments and specializes in flute and piccolo repair. Her musical background includes playing flutes, piccolo and percussion in musical theatre, small ensembles, concert bands, orchestras and church groups.
 
Mike Streich (Bozeman)
Mike joined the Eckroth Music repair department in 1991, with six years of experience. He is a graduate of Minot State University with a degree in Music Education and holds a degree in Instrument Repair from Red Wing VTI- now Minnesota State College Southeast at Red Wing. He worked in the Billings store prior to moving to the Bozeman location. He has presented repair seminars for the Montana Music Educators and the Collegiate Music Educators of Montana.
 

North Dakota

Drew Larson (Bismarck)
Drew Larson is a graduate of Minnesota State University – Moorhead with a degree in trumpet performance. Drew is certified in Band Instrument Repair by Renton Technical College in Renton, WA. After repairing and performing in Seattle for two years, Drew decided to return to his native state. He looks forward to serving the community’s musical needs and future performing opportunities. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, motorcycling, snow and water skiing.
 
Matt Anderson (Bismarck)
Matt Anderson is a native of Dickinson North Dakota. He is a graduate of Dickinson State University with a degree in music performance. Matt started working in music retail in 2010 as an employee of Jacobsen Music. In 2019 he joined the Eckroth Music team in Dickinson as Jacobsen Music joined the Eckroth Music Family In 2021 Matt joined the Business Office in Bismarck, and also joined Drew Larson in the repair shop to begin training in repair.
 
Richard Sherman (Fargo)
Richard joined the Eckroth Repair team from Kansas City with 42 years of repair experience under his belt. Richard starting repairing in 1961 and owned a band instrument repair/ overhaul shop for 13 years. He attended Kansas University and University of Missouri, Kansas City, and has repaired instruments for many national artists such as Phil Woods, John Williams, The Count Basie Band, Rick Braun and Phyllis Diller as well as local jazz, blues, and symphony artists.
 
 

Minnesota

 
Sam Skavnak (Metro)
Sam has a degree in music from the University of Minnesota (2018) as well as a Repair Diploma from the band instrument repair program at Red Wing (2013) now Minnesota State College Southeast at Red Wing. Sam has been with Eckroth Music since fall of 2016, but has been active in the repair field since summer 2013. Additionally, Sam is an active freelance reed player in the Twin Cities, emphasizing performance of early jazz on clarinet and various saxophones.
 

Mike Schierman (Metro)
Michael attended Normandale Community College as a Trumpet performance major and is certified in Band Instrument Repair from Red Wing VTI now Minnesota State College Southeast at Red Wing. After repairing and playing with multiple groups in Montgomery, AL for 4 years, he decided to return to Minnesota in order to be closer to family. His musical background includes playing trumpet, guitar, bass guitar, and drums in concert bands and rock bands. His hobbies include playing board games, disc golf, cooking, and reading.

 

Quinn Gerboth (Metro)
Quinn Gerboth plays guitar and began working and apprenticing as a repair technician in 2019 at Flesher-Hilton Music Co. in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.  After having developed a focused skillset involving string repair and an additional proficiency in brass and woodwind repair, he later made the decision to relocate and join Eckroth Music in 2022.  

Eau Claire

Gregory Meyers
Greg transfers as our brass and woodwind technician from the Morgan Music partnership at our location in Eau Claire. He brings 39 years of experience in band instrument repair and prior to his trade, was a Trumpet Specialist in the 74th US Army Band, Indianapolis, and Band Director for the Warren School District in Indiana. He is a graduate of the Red Wing Band Instrument VTI, now Minnesota State College Southeast at Red Wing, holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Masters of Science in Music degree from Butler University in Indiana. In his spare time, Greg enjoys gardening, landscaping, and making lamps, planters, and other musical crafts from old instruments that are no longer repairable.
